After Spain, Florida is the most popular destination for Brits to purchase second, investment and holiday homes. Now, despite the distance, flights are direct and relatively cheap!
The decline in the prices for homes in the US has not only left Florida property developers with too many unsold homes, but an astounding amount of great deals for investors and first time home buyers. Just like in Spain there are deals to be had for the BRitish who love the sun and the Florida Beaches. In some areas there are restrictions on the number of nights you can rent property out and in some places it’s banned all together. Florida will always be a world-class holiday destination.
Concentrated- Via Jesse Turner MBA
Most of you reading this consider yourself- organized, disciplined, focused, goal-oriented, and ambitious- or maybe at least a one of these. But these adjectives do not imply results.
Many of us constantly think of an ideal. We have ‘goals on our mind. But often this is in a whimsical fashion. And with so many things vying for our attention, it is difficult to concentrate on the task at hand. We have multiple goals we are working towards simultaneously. Life goals, family goals, work goals… And then we have media- everywhere it can be conceivably input- it will be there to catch your attention.
A skill of the uber successful is the willful control and direction of thought. My quick tip today:
BLOCK OFF TIME- And I mean truly block off time. Completely immerse yourself into the task at hand. Ignore everything else. Emails, phone calls, people walking by your cubicle. Do not even look up. Focus on the objective. You have work to be done- Now do it. Embody the Nike spirit- “Just Do It” and nothing else. Let no thought enter your mind. Inevitably other minutia will encroach on your Block of task time. If you truly pay attention, you will notice how often your mind drifts and loses it concentration. But to get what you want in life- today, not tomorrow- to be most effective: CONCENTRATE.
The annual convention is in full swing. In the halls it’s elbow to elbow and the line at the water fountain is long and the thirsty are impatient… The almost-week long convention draws REALTORs from across the state. They come to socialize, to party, to get educated and to network. This is my first convention and I’m really excited.
My FAR day tomorrow is packed! Here’s the breakdown:
9-11 REALTOR Political Action Committee
11-2 Microsoft Excel workshop
215 -345 Go Global with Listings Unleashed on the Web
320 Meeting with Bob Caldwell to discuss Habitat for Humanity
4-530 Building Your Website
I am also taking part in the Florida Association of REALTORs Leadership Academy this year and we had our second-to-last group meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the bulk of the convention following just after from Thurs to Sun.
One of the sessions/committee meetings that I am looking forward to the most is the Legislative & Political Forum on Friday from 5 to 630pm. I’m a political junky and this session assumes to have the most political action of the week because the main focus for the session will be a meet and greet Q&A session with Gubernatorial Candidates Bill McCollum, Florida Attorney General and Alex Sink, Florida Cheif Financial Officer and U.S. Senate Candidates Kendrick Meek, Member of Congress (FL-17) and Marco Rubio, Former Florida House Speaker.
Pretty cool.
James Adkins of the Adkins Florida Group took part in a 4 Home Dedication Celebration for Habitat For Humanity on Sunday, June 14th in Palmetto, Florida. It was a great day for all involved. To learn more and to see a video please click the links below.

I had lunch at Tortilla Bay, www.tortilla-bay.com, on Anna Maria Island today with a friend - it was my first time there - and, man! did they have some really good fish tacos. And they were cheap, too! We both had a great lunch, complete with guacamole, queso, chips and drinks for under $20.
The interior is hip, the music is relevant, and the staff is fast and friendly. It could get a bit packed, however, as the restaurant itself isn’t that big. But it’s worth rubbin’ elbows for a few minutes to get some really good, and cheap, food.
San Remo Shores is located just a few sandy miles from the sugar sands and cobalt waters of Anna Maria Island and the Gulf of Mexico. This wonderful boating community of 230 homes is designed around a network of 6 deep-water canals, 5 running north-south and 1 running east-west, just off Palma Sola Bay in lovely Manatee County, Florida. All the homes in San Remo Shores are located on a saltwater canal and all have direct access to ICW and the Gulf of Mexico.

The home prices in San Remo Shores usually run from the mid 300’s to over a million and there are still opportunities to purchase a fixer-upper and create your own waterfront dream home. Moreover, the atmosphere in San Remo Shores is one of frivolity and mirth. In fact, most of the residents within the neighborhood have formed strong bonds with one another and it is not unusal for roving parties to break out during the weekends.

Officials Go Fishing for Abandoned Pools
Filling abandoned swimming pools with mosquito-eating fish can clear the pools of the insects, which carry West Nile Virus and other diseases.
From Washington D.C. to California, mosquito infestations are growing because of the rising number of foreclosures. For instance, Phoenix officials believe the number of abandoned pools may reach 14,000 this year from 6,000 in 2007.
The pools can’t simply be drained to solve the problem. Without water weighing them down, pools can rise out of the ground. Also. mosquitoes will lay eggs in a puddle no larger than a couple of ounces.
Some cities are pulling old swim pool construction permits and checking the addresses against foreclosure records to get a better handle on the number of abandoned pools.

Life is good.
Today is simply one of those days that reminds me why I live in Bradenton. Right now, looking out my back door and onto the Braden River beyond, the sun is shining and it is partly cloudy, 78 degrees. Absolute perfection. The fish are biting, the greens fees for most of the courses have just been reduced and summer is just around the corner.
